Wedding Invitation Seal Placement Guide

Wax seal placement changes both the look and the usability of a wedding invitation suite. Before choosing a position, assemble the full stack with envelope, liner, vellum, ribbon, insert cards, and any outer mailer so you can test how the guest will open it.

Back-flap center placement is the classic choice. It looks formal, photographs beautifully, and immediately signals a special invitation. The tradeoff is mailing exposure, so couples often use an outer envelope or choose flexible wax seal stickers for better durability.

Side-offset placement feels more editorial and modern. It works well with asymmetrical typography, ribbon wraps, and minimal paper stocks. It can also reduce pressure on the exact flap center during handling.

For vellum wraps, lower-third placement is usually the safest visual choice. It keeps the seal visible without blocking the names, venue line, or RSVP details. If the vellum is delicate, test adhesive strength before committing to the full run.

Belly bands give the most controlled placement because the seal sits on a separate strip rather than directly on the envelope. This is useful when you want the invitation to remain easy to open while still creating a layered reveal.

Always make a mailing test before production. Send one complete sample through the same delivery method you plan to use. If the seal cracks, catches, or leaves pressure marks, switch to sticker seals or adjust placement before assembling the full batch.
